&lt;p>An ideal psychoactive sleep aid would have several characteristics:&lt;/p>
&lt;p>&lt;strong>Rapid onset with appropriate duration&lt;/strong>: It should work quickly (15-30 minutes) to help initiate sleep, last long enough to maintain sleep through the night, but refrain from causing next-day drowsiness or &amp;ldquo;hangover&amp;rdquo; effects. Ideally, it would have a half-life of 6-8 hours.&lt;/p>
